HELP LOCAL ARTISTS DEMAND KANSAS CITY WORKSHOPS BY RENOWNED TEACHER, NICK WOOLSEY

Poi is a form of dance, where weights on the ends of tethers are swung through rhythmical patterns. It is rooted in the culture of
the Maori people of Aotearoa (aka New Zealand), who dance with poi in traditional ceremonies.

The Midwest has several poi and fire dancers, who have all learned their trade in a variety of ways. With the release of the
Scales of Poi DVD and online tutorials at playpoi.com, Nick Woolsey set a uniform method for poi as well as implemented it as a tool for meditation. He documented how to effectively master the craft both safely and theatrically. He has since traveled the world inspiring fellow artists with his teachings and wisdom. The Kansas City art community would greatly benefit from his presence and it would be an honor to have such an influence teach here. Follow the demand link to the right to request Playpoi and Nick Woolsey in Kansas City, MO.

MICHAEL KAISER TOURS COUNTRY, OFFERS SUPPORT TO ARTS ORGANIZATIONS IN CRISIS

Michael M. Kaiser, the president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, has been traveling to all 50 states on an Arts in Crisis tour. Alarmed by reports that arts groups were cutting programming because of money woes — a recipe for disaster, in his view — he created
artsincrisis.org, a website where organizations can write to apply for free planning help from Kennedy Center staff members or a group of volunteer mentors. Click here to read the complete article from The New York Times.
